Kim has been teaching Dance and Choreographing for over 20 years. She is knowledgable in all Genres of Dance. She has worked on local performances for “A Chorus Line”, “Fame”, and “Grease”. She choreographed Keyano Theatre's 2011 Musical "All Shook Up". In February 2013 she choreographed and starred in local musical "HomeTown, The Musical". She was also the choreographer for Keyano Theatre Company's "Cabaret" & "Footloose". She has taken many professional classes in LA, Florida, NY and Las Vegas to further her knowledge. Kim has completed the DEA Teacher Training Syllabus Program. She is an Affiliate with The Society of Russian Ballet. She has worked on choreography for neighbouring Alberta schools and is sought after across the province for her teaching skills. She has been recognized by agents who represent Dance Educators for her choreography. She has been featured in Dance Studio Life Magazine for her Artistic Direction and Business Operations. She prides herself on her dancers’ accomplishments – as they have obtained numerous titles with her choreography and training; many are successful Artists in the Industry. In addition, there are graduating dancers who trained under Miss Kim that have pursued careers in teaching dance locally and across Canada. Many graduating students under Miss Kims training have become Entrepreneurs in all facets of Health and the Arts. Kim Hurley is also the Artistic Director for "Northern Dance Off" Festival, and was the Artistic Director for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games. Her expertise as an instructor, choreographer and Artistic Director has given her dancers key elements in life long dance careers. Her extensive knowledge and years of dance teaching have made her one of the most successful dance business owners in Alberta. Lela Nqumayo, originally from Grantham, England, brings 10 years of experience developing dancers with a passion for the art. She started her early dance training at The Elite Academy of Dance. Focusing primarily on RAD Classical Ballet and ISTD Tap. She then trained and performed under the direction of Kristov Star at the Starchevski School of Ballet in Calgary, Alberta. There she completed RAD Ballet Exams and performed different roles, some of which include The Nutcracker. She continued her training at Generation Dance Studio, Fort McMurray and completed it at Barre None, Shawnigan Lake School, BC.
Upon graduation, she pursued a career in teaching and graduated with a Bachelors in Education in 2013. During which time she was a dance instructor at Keyano Conservatory College and continued at Mac Island Dance Academy.
Lela’s pursuit in dance education has propelled her to attend numerous workshops and master classes from industry professionals at Pulse New York (Teacher Certification), Groove Street Convention, Street Groove, Pulse Toronto, Harbour Dance Studios, 3rd Street Beat, Kore Dance Studio, Artists Emerge, Acrobatic Arts and Broadway Dance Centre. Lela continues to enhance her skills professionally by attending masterclass workshops frequently.
Alex has been dancing since she was five years old at Kirkwood Academy in Nanaimo, BC, which she trained and competed in ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical jazz and modern. During this time, she had many amazing opportunities, including dancing in California and New York with Dance the Magic for large audiences. Alex has also competed in BC Provincials in various categories, and won the Stage II Provincial winner title in 2011. After her studio career, Alex moved to Vancouver, BC to further pursue dance with the Source Dance Company under the direction of Joanne and Alex Pesusich, and Aviary Dance Company with Julio Fuentes. Here she gained knowledge and training in hip hop and street jazz, and further expanding her previous knowledge. This allowed her to work with many influencing choreographers for live performance shows such as “Under One Roof”, “iYi Dance Inspired”, “The Main Event”, “Brilliant!”, “Stories from the West Side” and “Finding Wonderland”. Along with performances, Alex has had various experiences in film, including music videos for pop artist Laurell, and commercials including “Oil of Olay” and “Seren”. Now Alex is very excited to expand her teaching knowledge here at Generation Dance Studio for these wonderful and hardworking students.
Ali danced at Generation Dance Studio from the age of 5 all the way to 18. She was a part of their competitive team and trained in all styles including jazz, hiphop, lyrical, tap, ballet and contemporary. During her time in Fort McMurray Ali has been a part of many local productions such as “Cabaret” and “Footloose”. Upon graduating from GDS Ali moved to Vancouver, BC to train with the Source Dance Company under the direction of Alex and Joanne Pesusich. Within her time there she gained knowledge and training in all styles and has developed both her teaching and dancing abilities. Being a part of this company, Ali was able to work with many renowned choreographers and influencers in the dance community. Since moving to BC she has been a part of many live shows such as “Under One Roof”, “Urban Alchemy”, “Lamondance”, and “Conversations at the Station”. Alongside these live performances, Ali also has experience in film and has participated in music videos for pop artist Marlae, and short film “The Sinner”. She looks forward to further growing her relationship at Generation Dance Studio as a choreographer and is excited to continue expanding her knowledge in this field.
